After reading this book, I felt completely satisfied at how it ended. I also agree with the author that no one should allow themselves to be bullied or brutalized by another human. Often, it is fear that keeps one in a subjugating situation, feeling trapped and not knowing what to do and where to go. Often also, the one holding another in control do so after they have completely isolation the one they want to control, and thereby rending them helpless.Remember, the one holding another in control is a human, and must not be feared. They are usually cowards who pick on people smaller and weaker than themselves. That not withstanding, no one should subject themselves to brutality in any form. When I read about such brutality, I always wish the beasts will eventually meet their match and be brutalized in return.
This is a beautiful read, well written with impeccable editing. I thoroughly enjoy the book, and will recommend it to any woman or man living in a married bondage.

Without a doubt Ria MacAlister brings to the forefront the horrific abuse that goes on between spouses and partners. The story was riveting and the reader is more than satisfied with the ending when the victim becomes the victor. I couldn't put the book down until I knew things were going to be all right again.
I loved this book! The story line was a little dark at first, but it was a great read on the whole. I do have to say that while I loved the entire story, I really found it unbelievable that so many masculine men would cry as they do. That's all I found a little off with this novel. The rest was just fantastic. Great work.
I had quite a bit of trouble writing this review because Heart Shaped Shards touched me so deeply. It’s the kind of book that stays with you long after you turn the last page. Ria has done an outstanding job in crafting a story that is reality for so many people.
The characters and story are so well-developed, I really had trouble putting it down. The storyline, the way Kate and Shay interact with each other, is truly addicting and completely entertaining.
Ria has a voice that needs to be heard (or read) and I sincerely hope she’s planning on writing more books!

I saw a link for this book on a social network site and decided to download it. I found myself laughing & crying many times throughout the book. Ms. MacAlisiter most certainly has a knack for drawing the reader in & keeping their interest.
I was so captivated by the whole story!!! Her character development is simply amazing. I felt like I knew everyone in the book & could picture how they looked and what their voices would actually sound like. I love romance stories and this one blew me away.
It wasn't your typical sappy "all's right with the world & they lived happily ever after" story. There were amazing "never saw that coming" moments that really kept me interested. I can't wait for the next story!!!!

Heart shaped shards is a sad story with a beautiful ending. The suffering of the main character is very palatable. Even more so knowing that the author went through a terrible time herself. The pain and fear are so real, you want to reach out inside the book and wrap your arms around Kate. So when Shay does just that, it is such a relief! Kate gets destroyed both physically and mentally and starts a long road to recovery. But she does not believe in herself, she does not believe she can get to a better and safer place. It takes her time, patience and the love of her dedicated friends to start moving into the right direction, one tiny little step at a time. Heart shaped shards is a story of hope, strength, and faith in one's own ability to pick up their shattered pieces and become whole. It shows that love and patience are stronger than hurt and betrayal.
Kate is a victim of abusive parents and then an abuse husband. Her latest beating nearly kills her.
Her only friends help her bodies’ wounds heal as much as they can. But Kate’s wounds run much deeper than flesh and bones.
Healing her soul is a slow and painful process, as her demons keep wounding her. Along the way, fate brings a shining knight who helps Kate slay these demons. But Kate is not alone in her feelings of unworthiness. Her knight has some issues himself.
And some demons are very difficult to vanquish.
Will Kate find what she needs?
I recommend that you read this gripping, well-written romance with a box of tissues close at hand.
